A Few Examples of our Active Projects
Concept to Commercialization:

Needle Escort® device

There are approximately 800,000 sharps injuries reported each year regarding healthcare professionals in the United States. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration mandated a change in the Federal Blood Borne Pathogens Act to avoid accidental sharps injury. The Needle Escort® device has been designed and developed by surgeons to address the need for a device to protect against sharps injury associated with hand-to-hand passing of suture materials and scalpels. The device acts as a "neutral zone" and also facilitates the "no-hands" passing of sharp instruments between members of the surgical team. The disposable device is versatile, multi-functional and cost-effective.

Presently the company is able to produce non-sterile finished product with its own production mold and sub-contractor member network. All engineering design and market research has been completed and documented. The product has a registered US trade mark, US utility patent pending and has been classified by the FDA as Class I Exempt. The primary intent is to license the Needle Escort® device to a third party distribution partner. Potential distribution partners or equity stakeholders should contact Medical Milestones™.

Licensing:

Prosthetic Venous Valve
BioMedical Research Associates, Inc. (BMRA) has recently completed a Phase I STTR grant in collaboration with The University of Akron. This grant was awarded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to further BMRA’s business goal of developing and commercializing a unique and proprietary prosthetic venous valve to replace damaged or diseased valves in the deep venous system. BMRA has recently submitted a Phase II STTR proposal to support further R&D on this project.

The prosthetic venous valve being developed by BMRA will be surgically implanted in selected venous locations and has the potential to alleviate the debilitating consequences of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) and promote the healing of chronic venous stasis ulcers. In the United States alone, 500-600,000 new patients present annually to physicians or wound care centers that have non-healing venous stasis ulcers. Thus the societal and economic impact of a successful prosthetic venous valve implant is enormous.

Strategic Planning & Distribution:

PneuGel®
The Strategic Planning process resulted in a national and international initiative to brand and distribute the PneuGel® product line of orthopedic soft goods. Domestically this market represents sales in excess of $1 billion annually. The main products are braces and supports that provide immobilization, compression, protection, pain relief or functionality for patients following musculoskeletal injuries and disease. The PneuGel® line of products is unique in that they combine all five of these features and benefits into one product. The comfortable, high-grade support splint has a removable gel bladder that may be placed in the freezer, so it can provide cold therapy. It may also be inflated to apply pinpoint compression therapy right where it is needed.

The company is seeking domestic and international distribution for the PneuGel® product line. Further OEM contract manufacturing opportunities for any "cut & sew" or "foam laminated" products also exist. Interested parties should contact Medical Milestones™.
